There's debate online as to whether this was said by Napoleon or the Prussian Field Marshall Hulmuth von Moltke but regardless, I think it perfectly sums up how we should approach planning. 

I think it's essential to be flexible and make plans that we can quickly adapt, or even discard, if we need to. It's also easy to become dogmatic and let the plan take over but like the quote above suggests, things can quickly change and we're often left facing the unexpected.
